After a recent overhaul of its current truck and SUV lineup,

Toyota Motor unveiled a new 4Runner SUV for the first time in almost 15 years.

In addition to sharing styling cues with the recently redesigned Toyota Tacoma pickup, the 2025 4Runner will debut new high-end “Platinum” and “Trailhunter” trim levels and a hybrid engine for the first time.

“The new 4Runner is a highly adaptable and capable vehicle that perfectly completes our truck lineup,” stated in a statement Dave Christ, general manager and vice president of the Toyota group. Over the past 40 years, we have sold over 3 million 4Runners, and this sixth-generation model keeps the tough style and capability that our customers adore about this iconic adventure vehicle while now sporting a stylish new look and amazing amenities.

Toyota’s “truck family,” which consists of the Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks and the 4Runner, Land Cruiser, and Sequoia SUVs, is often referred to as the “five brothers.” After the Land Cruiser and Tundra made their premiere on Toyota’s global truck platform in 2021, the 4Runner is the last vehicle to be updated and manufactured on it.

Toyota stated that the 2025 4Runner’s price will be revealed closer to the time of sale.

The 2024 model has a starting price between $41,000 and over $55,000.

Toyota is well-known for producing fuel-efficient cars like the Prius, but before they were modified, the larger “brother” SUVs, such as the 4Runner, had considerably lower fuel ratings from the federal government, averaging 17 MPG combined or less. 2010 saw the release of the current 4Runner, with various changes.

Miles per gallon estimates for the new 4Runner will be made public closer to its fall retail debut, according to Toyota. Fuel efficiency has been increased in Toyota’s other new trucks and SUVs.

Last month, Toyota Motor North America’s executive vice president, Jack Hollis, stated that the company is still working to balance out the lineup of trucks and SUVs it offers, including plug-in hybrid, all-electric, and hybrid vehicles.

He remarked, “Those brothers, they have a lot of differences and a lot of similarities.” “What is the quickest way to reduce carbon emissions for everyone, everywhere? It involves carefully balancing those five products.

The 48-horsepower electric motor integrated into the eight-speed transmission of the 4Runner’s optional hybrid engine is a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine that can generate up to 326 horsepower and 465 foot-pounds of torque. The 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that comes standard with the car generates 317 foot-pounds of torque and 278 horsepower.

There are nine variants that the 2025 4Runner will be available in: Trailhunter, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, TRD Off Road, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, SR5, and TRD Off Road.

When it comes to off-road style and equipment, the new Trailhunter model has more features like rock rails and high-strength steel skid plates, while the Platinum model is built more for luxury and convenience.

The Tahara facility of Toyota in Japan is currently producing the 2025 4Runner.
