A police incident in Leicestershire has resulted in the closure of the M1 in both directions.
On Friday morning, traffic was backed up on both sides of the road as the highway was closed between Leicester’s junctions 21A and 22.
Not long before 4:00 pm GMT, Leicestershire Police initially blocked all north and southbound lanes.
A “police incident” has also resulted in the closure of Forest Road in Markfield, according to the force.
According to Highways England, the closure is anticipated to be for a “number of hours”.
The back of the line is being used to reroute traffic that is stuck in the stoppage, according to them.
At 07:40 GMT, traffic is increasing on both carriageways, causing delays for vehicles of 30 minutes on the northbound carriageway and 15 minutes on the southbound road.
When motorists exit the M1, there are delays on the A46 as well.
