In 1996, Hale Irwin won his first of four Senior PGA Championships at the PGA Seniors’ Championship Men’s Golf at PGA National GC, defeating Japan’s Isao Aoki by two shots.

In one of the biggest upsets in boxing history, Hasim Rahman defeats Lennox Lewis with a devastating right hand toward the end of the fifth round in Brakpan, South Africa, to win the WBC and IBF heavyweight crowns.

2012: The Chicago White Sox defeat the Seattle Mariners 4-0 thanks to a perfect game pitched by Phil Humber, the team’s first major league pitcher in nearly two years.
2013: At the Spanish Open, Raphael Jacquelin of France wins a playoff that breaks all previous records by defeating Maximilian Kieffer of Germany on their ninth attempt at the 18th hole. The 1989 Dutch Open was the only other European Tour tournament to be decided in a nine-hole playoff.

2013 saw Takuma Sato win the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, making history as the first Japanese driver to win an IndyCar event.

2013: In Austin, Texas, rookie Marc Marquez won the Grand Prix of the Americas, his maiden MotoGP event. The 20-year-old Spaniard, the Moto2 champion from the previous season, becomes the youngest winner at the highest level of motorcycle racing.

Rita Jeptoo, a Kenyan, becomes the seventh person to win the Boston Marathon three times with her successful defense of the title.

2018: Boston Red Sox get no-hit by left-hander Sean Manaea of the Oakland A’s.
