Authorities in Kansas said on Friday that actor Cole Brings Plenty, who had been missing since Sunday as part of a domestic abuse investigation, had been found dead.

In a region around 43 miles southwest of Kansas City, deputies were called to check on an abandoned car on Friday just before noon. As stated in a statement by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, they found the body of the 27-year-old in a nearby forested area.

The type of death has not been revealed by deputies. Johnson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson McKenzi Davis stated, “Our office is still investigating this incident and I will update if I learn more.”

The actor gained notoriety for his role in the “Yellowstone” spinoff “1923.”

Cole Brings Plenty was spotted traveling south from the city center in his Ford Explorer SUV on Sunday after an alleged domestic violence incident, according to police in Lawrence, Kansas, which is roughly 30 miles northwest of the location where Cole Brings Plenty’s body was discovered. This information was reported earlier in the week.

Worried about the worst, friends and relatives, notably Uncle Moses Brings Plenty, a regular on “Yellowstone” who had also starred in “1923,” urged awareness.

On his Instagram account this week, Moses Brings Plenty posted flyers for missing people for his nephew. He doubted that his nephew would have used domestic violence, despite the allegations made by Lawrence police, in one post. Uncle also didn’t think his nephew was going to run away or be in any other way “on the run.”

An additional worry was raised by a flyer claiming that the younger actor’s phone had been off. After describing his nephew’s disappearance as “anomalous,” the older star requested that authorities locate him.

In an attempt to locate the actor, Lawrence police said on Thursday that they were keeping in contact with the actor’s family and were investigating leads.

The district attorney’s office for the area stated that although the police submitted an affidavit supporting an arrest warrant for Cole Brings Plenty, the story was suppressed and could not be made public until official charges were brought.

According to Lawrence police, on Sunday, there was a complaint about a woman screaming for assistance, and officers arrived. According to them, a Ford Explorer that was leaving the town was seen by nearby traffic cameras.

An inquiry for comment from Cole Brings Plenty’s management was not answered.

Starring Kevin Costner, “Yellowstone” on Paramount Network has grown into a cable powerhouse since its 2018 premiere. Paramount+’s “1923,” which had its premiere in late 2022, is one of the many spinoffs that developed from it.

The uncle, who goes by Mo Brings Plenty, is one of the family members who play Indigenous roles on franchise shows. The other family member draws on his Lakota roots.

Joe Brings Plenty, the father of Cole Brings Plenty, announced his son’s passing and expressed gratitude to everyone who assisted in the hunt for him.

“We would also like to thank everyone who came to walk beside us as we searched for my son and provided the resources we needed to expand our search areas,” he stated. “I learned this week how many people knew the goodness in Cole’s heart and loved him.”

In addition, he said, the family would work to “figure out how we move forward.”
